The Personal Touch

People used to save their Christmas and other holiday cards from year to year, sometimes filling boxes with greetings never to be seen or read again, as they were stashed in sealed boxes in the back of the attic until a next-gen found and threw them away. When recycling became a big deal in the ’60s and ’70s, collections were taken of both used and unused cards to be “sanitized” for re-use in parts unknown. Then came the electronic age, where e-cards were initially scorned as the lazy person’s way to say “Happy Holidays,” “Merry Christmas,” “Happy Hannukah,” “Happy Kwanza,” ad infinitum. Soon enough, however, the urge to save both time and money gave way to the present onslaught of holiday greetings delivered electronically… Early on, card companies offered (and many still do) a variety of designs incorporating neat graphics and animation that could only be provided by using computers. Creative types came to prefer making their own greeting cards, sometimes using family photos, other times using their own creativity to share good tidings.

We got to thinking about this while looking over a number of e-cards received this past season, and decided many of them are worth another look. With that in mind, we trust your holidays were most enjoyable, and that 2015 will meet your greatest expectations.
